Ukrainian Folk Song: “The fog’s over the ravine, the valley”
The fog’s over the ravine, the valley,
‘hind the mist, nothing can be seen,
One can see only an oak, green,
Under that oak, there was a well,
By which there stood a girl,
Who took water and dropped a gold pail,
A lad’s heart, she has put in flames.
“The guy who will get the pail for me,
That lad, on the wed-shawl ‘ll be”.
There responded a lad from the grove:
“I will get the small pail for thee,
And, you’ll stand on the wed-shawl with me,
Let the fog flow out to the dell,
If I’m lucky, I will wed the girl”.
